Cerasuolo di Vittoria Classico DOCG “COS” is an organic wine of the appellation, made from Frappato and Nero d'Avola grapes in regulated percentages. It is produced in Sicily in a large area in the province of Ragusa and partly in the provinces of Caltanissetta and Catania.
This is an area of very ancient viticultural vocation, as evidenced by numerous documents dating as far back as the 3rd century BC. However, the date of birth of Cerasuolo di Vittoria in the current type is much later and coincides with the founding of the city of Vittoria in 1607, the foundress of the city gifted in that year one hectare of land to each settler on condition that he cultivated another hectare as a vineyard.
The Denomination of Controlled Origin to Cerasuolo di Vittoria Classico DOCG was granted in 1974 and Guaranteed in 2005 and is unique to Sicily.
